Introduction to TEDQUAL

Drawing on WTO�s experience with TEDQUAL (Tourism Education Quality), this book focuses on the all-important task of improving the quality of tourism education. It provides a new methodological insight to standardize the analysis of tourism education and training quality gaps and better match the needs of tourism employers with the training options offered to tourism students. Developed by WTO, with the assistance of the George Washington University (USA), Introduction to TEDQUAL explains the need for this new approach and offers the results of a pilot study carried out using TEDQUAL methodology.

Tourism�s Potential as a Sustainable Development Strategy

This publication contains the proceedings of the 2004 WTO Tourism Policy Forum, organized by the WTO Education Council and held at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. It includes over thirty speeches and academic papers from Tourism Ministers, development agency representatives, WTO officials, academics, and other tourism experts who presented at the main session of the conference. Also included are summaries of the parallel sessions in which case studies were presented. The Forum was organized with the aim of exchanging views with bilateral and multilateral donor organizations, as well as representative recipients; discussing sustainable tourism development policies in relation to the MDGs; reporting on WTO general initiatives in relation to sustainable tourism and development and particularly the WTO ST-EP program to bring sustainable tourism development into the service of poverty elimination; sharing promising practices for sustainable development and considering lessons learned from exemplary tourism projects supported by donors; and formulating recommendations for utilizing tourism as a sustainable development tool for achieving MDG outcomes.

Human Resource in Tourism: Towards a New Paradigm

Human resource development occupies a central role in achieving efficiency in tourism. In this context, the II International Conference on Tourism Professions, which took as its theme �Tourism Employment: Towards a New Paradigm� was held in Madrid, Spain on 26 and 27 January 1998, with the participation of more than thirty speakers and 350 people from twenty-eight countries.This publication is a collection of the papers presented during the Conference on topics relating to the present situation of human resources in the tourism industry and the advisability of creating an alternative conceptual framework for the quality and efficiency of human capital in tourism.

Educating the Educators in Tourism

This publication is designed to be used by participants in UNWTOs tourism education and training courses, but can also be used for independent study. In its approach, the book emphasizes the importance of achieving quality in tourism education, and responding to the needs of tourism employers and professionals. It covers curriculum design, tourism education quality analysis, research methodology, and new trends in tourism education. It is also applicable to the problems of training in private compagnies and new resorts.
